What We Are

This compound is made up of the main house (La Casa) and 3 one-bedroom

apartments.  Apartment #1 is an Airbnb as is La Casa. Apartment #2 is leased

to a long-term tenant, and Apartment #3 is where the owner lives.

Built in 1935, the main house had three studio apartments added in 1955.

The current owner moved into the property Thanksgiving weekend 2008.  To her apartment she added the garage on the alley and a living room.  Also part of her first thorough round of refurbishments, she removed the leaky gas lines, replaced the water line, landscaped the front and back yards--the backyard became a courtyard, the front yard became an enclosed patio with fruit trees and irrigation so the roses bloomed, and modernized the studio apartments. The property was thoroughly safe, live-able and pleasant, parking enhanced, all was good.

Chiefly thanks to Chris Baker, who did EVERYTHING and oversaw EVERYTHING, the success of this first HUGE 2009-2011 effort resulted from the great work of a terrific and serendipitous crew:

  • Painting contractors The Motto Brothers (Gary and Anthony) & Crew,

  • Concrete man Hinyo Nieto & Crew,

  • Landscaper Ray Sandoval & Crew,

  • Tiler JR Torres (tile magician),

  • Electrician Kent Mensch (diligent),

  • Plumber Richard Lucero from Trevor Reed,

  • Contractor for the additions Kevin Roady, and others.

The most recent remodeling efforts began June 1, 2016 and wrapped up September 1, 2017.  During that time, the 3 studio apartments were thoroughly improved and became 2 one-bedroom apartments.  The main house lost its non-functioning fireplace and gained a central open concept for the kitchen and living and dining rooms, the master bedroom gained a new closet configuration, and the courtyard pergolas gained a metal roof.

Our initial demolition was thanks to the very good efforts of Fredo Morales and his crew--very up-standing guy.  Our actual construction required a larger crew, which came from the ever good-humored, professional and patient contractor Carl Pacheco and his excellent crew at CJ&J Construction--great job, guys.

Our Post-Construction teams have been equally excellent:

•  Stagers - Wonderful, insightful, magical Terry Chavez (Text and Phone 505-379-0933) & Pam Leverick arranged each room and oftentimes found just the right pieces for each space.  They also recommended our photographer.

•  Photographer - Minh (Text and Phone 505-907-6464) with Paper Crane Pictures, whose work perfectly showcases everyone else's excellent efforts.

•  Do-Everything - M'Lis (pronounced Mah-Leese, rhymes with geese) Scott's Assured Concierge (Text and Phone 505-401-2769) service for turnover between guests and for the many pieces that go into this property's operation.  She's wonderful, does everything.
